The Hemet Police Department was saddened to learn of the death of off-duty police officer Jonathan Montoya yesterday afternoon in the city of Murrieta. Officer Montoya was a 7 year veteran of the department and was the recipient of the department's Police Cross for his brave actions during an armed confrontation in 2010. The news of his death stunned the department and we intend to do everything we can to support Jon's family and loved ones as well as his friends and colleagues at the department. Jon was at his home recovering from an injury he sustained while working. Jon will be sorely missed.
